Feedback form is now closed.
The plan for the workshop is to have a short presentation on what OBD2 port is and what CAN is within the contexts of a vehicle. There will then be 12 instrument clusters available to be able to apply the CAN basics you have just learnt to see what messages you can create to make the cluster gauges and indicators do things. Most of the clusters in use will be the same as the one with PD0 the 'Car in a box' after you have cracked messages on the cluster PD0 will be available to be used/abused by attendees. There will also be other cluster from other vehicles from PSA group, which may or may not use similar message structure.
Required hardware software. If you want to try natively using linux can-tools please bring a linux machine with can-tools installed (Currently Windows on Linux does not support the correct modules)Basic CAN hardware will be provided with the clusters and configured to work with Socket-can under linux, do not worry if you only have Windows I will be able to explain how to use Socket-can from a serial USB device, using either Putty or Arduino IDE serial console.
Your laptop will need 2 x USB A connectors, 1 for the can adapter and 1 to power the cluster. All clusters will also have a native OBD2 port (bus speed 125kbps) so if you have your own hardware and want to use it feel free to bring it along.
You may have to share the cluster between 2/3 people because of the limitation of only have 12 sets of clusters.
